Teachers
Elizabeth Moody Smith
Elizabeth Moody Smith began her love of dance when she was five. It wasn’t long
until she knew that dance would always be a part of her life. Growing up, she trained
in ballet, jazz, tap, clogging, modern, gymnastics, and cheerleading. At the age
of eight, she developed a special interest in ballet. She studied with Birmingham
Southern College Dance Department, Alabama Ballet, Montgomery Ballet, Andalusia
Ballet, and the Paris Opera Ballet. At the age of twelve, she was accepted to the
Alabama School of Fine Arts and also auditioned and was accepted to the Joffrey
Ballet in New York.
During high school, Mrs. Smith was a member of the senior company with Andalusia
Ballet. After graduating, she continued her dancing, competed and won the Miss University
of West Alabama Pageant (preliminary to the Miss Alabama Pageant.) In 1995, she
competed in the Miss Alabama Pageant.
From an early age Mrs. Smith planned to open a dance studio. After seven years of owning her own studio she has loved every minute of it. "It's great to have a job that you love. Being a part of teaching our youth the art of dance is so rewarding." Elizabeth moved to Calera in 2000 then to Columbiana in 2008. She and her husband, Chris, have been married almost 13 years and are proud parents of Branson, age 4, and Berkeley who will be a year old in July. Thank you all for another great year at CDA!!
Natalie Hill
Natalie Hill has been dancing since the age of seven. She began with Kathy Draper’s
dance studio, and continued through the eighth grade. In ninth grade she made the
cheerleading squad at Kingwood Christian School, in which time would not allow her
to do both, however; cheering gave her the opportunity to continue dance during
the cheer routines.
Miss Hill is a graduate of the University of Montevallo, where she achieved a degree
in retail merchandising, and a minor in business management. While attending Montevallo,
Natalie was active on the Falconettes dance team, and served as captain for 2 years,
and then went on to be there coach the following year. Natalie has been active through-out
the community choreographing field routines, judging dance team try-outs, and helping
young girls prepare for college and high school try-outs across the state.
Natalie has enjoyed working and getting to know her students during her 5th year
at CDA, and looks forward to next year. To my little ones “I am so proud of you
all and love you more than you know.?
Heather Hubbard
Heather Hubbard began dancing at the age of three while residing in New York . Heather has studied and competed in jazz and tap under the direction of Dyan Mulvey and later studied jazz, tap, and ballet under the direction of Sylvia McDonald. Heather’s family moved to Alabama where she began dancing at the Dance Centre in Tuscaloosa and was a member of their jazz company. She was also a member of her high school’s dance team and was selected Captain. Heather was selected as an UDA All Star and American All Star, which allowed her the opportunity to perform in Paris, France on the Good Will Tour.
After high school, Heather attended UAB, where she was on the dance team and received a dance scholarship. Upon graduating from UAB with a BS in Management, Heather went on to pursue her Masters degree from Troy University.
She continues to choreograph for high school teams across the southeast. She also helps prepare students for high school and college dance team try-outs across the southeast.
She is an active member throughout the community. Heather currently serves on the Board of Directors for Hands on Birmingham and is an advocate for volunteering. Heather married her college sweetheart, John, in 2008 and they currently reside in Pelham.

History
In early 2000, Mrs. Smith moved to and fell in love with the town of Calera, Alabama.
She soon realized Calera was a place in need of a convenient dance program since the
town was growing so rapidly. With years of dance experience, little interest in
climbing the corporate ladder, and timing on her side, she was able to open Calera
Dance Academy at its first location in downtown Calera in Summer 2003.
The first year was a success, but the location soon proved to be less than adequate.
Growing steadily, she decided to move the studio to a larger location north of the
new Walmart. With several well-educated and energetic dance instructors, the rosters
continued to grow. After 4 years in that location the opportunity to move back downtown
into a larger facility arose. In the summer of 2008, she relocated to her current
facility. The building had the charm of a traditional "New York" style dance studio.
She continues to be blessed with a professional staff who strive to offer the best
quality dance instruction. Thanks to everyone who's contributed to making Calera
Dance Academy a success!
Our Mission
